Identity Wallet
2024

Designed an open-source identity wallet for issuing and verifying educational credentials on the Cardano blockchain.
Context
Socious needed a way to verify freelancer credentials (education certificates, work history) on its platform without relying on traditional background checks. Existing identity wallet solutions were either not open-source, limited to single platforms, or incompatible with the latest Cardano infrastructure.
Problem
How do we make blockchain-based credential verification accessible to non-technical users while maintaining security and compliance?
Process
We faced significant technical constraints that impacted UX:
- Blockchain connection takes up to 5 minutes.
- KYC verification is invasive.
- Working across iOS, Android, and Browser Extension.
Solution
Provides users with a secure, self-sovereign identity that they control, ensuring privacy and data ownership.
Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and prevents fraudulent activities, enhancing the overall security and trustworthiness of the platform.
Enables educational institutions to issue tamper-proof, easily verifiable digital certificates, reducing the risk of fraud and simplifying the verification process for employers.
Provides employers and other stakeholders with a reliable and efficient method to verify the authenticity of educational credentials, saving time and resources in the hiring process.
Extends Gitcoin's quadratic funding concept to individual contributions.
Foolproof backup system for credential restoration.

- We underestimated the blockchain learning curve: Team needed more time to understand Cardano integration constraints.
- The initial KYC flow too complex: First version had too many steps; simplified after user testing to reduce drop-off.
- Connection time frustration: 5-minute waits caused drop-off; we had to add better progress communication.
Impact
First open-source wallet compatible with Atala PRISM v2.0
Launched on iOS, Android, and Browser Extension
Enabled credential verification across Socious Talent Marketplace
