Socious Talent Marketplace

2023

Led the complete rebuild of Socious' talent marketplace, designing new branding, contract management, crypto payments, and a decentralized dispute resolution system.

Context

Socious 2.0 was a functional MVP but couldn't scale. The platform needed a complete rebuild to support the features required for a modern freelance marketplace focused on social impact.

Problem

  • No contract management — agreements were informal
  • Single payment method limited global participation
  • No trust mechanism for new users (referrals)
  • No protection when disputes arose

How do we rebuild Socious from scratch into a comprehensive and accessible freelance platform while keeping social and environmental impact at the core?

Phase 1: Platform Foundation

Contract Management

Designed end-to-end flows for proposals, milestones, and acceptance workflows.

Multi-Currency Payments

Integrated both Fiat and Crypto payments.
Challenge: Making crypto accessible to non-crypto users via seamless wallet connections.

Credential Integration

Connected platform to Socious Identity Wallet.
Verified badges display on freelancer profiles for instant trust.

Phase 2: Decentralized Referral System

Traditional referral systems are opaque. We built a blockchain-based system where reward distribution is fair and verifiable with:
- a referral dashboard
- verified rewards
- a transparent tracking

Phase 3: Escrow & Dispute Resolution

Freelance platforms struggle with trust. Clients worry about paying for undelivered work; freelancers worry about not getting paid.

The Solution: Smart Contract Escrow + DAO Jury System.

Dispute Resolution Flow:

1 Dispute Initiation

Claimant submits dispute with evidence. Disputant has 10 days to respond or lose automatically.

2 Jury Selection

Smart contract randomly selects 3 jurors from DAO pool. Jurors must accept within 24 hours.

3 Evidence & Decision

Jurors review evidence in secure channel. Majority vote wins. Smart contract executes payout automatically.

What Went Wrong & Learning

Scope Creep: Contract management scope was too ambitious; we had to phase features across releases.

Blockchain Messaging: Blockchain verification messaging confused non-crypto users. We had to abstract the complexity behind a simple "Verified" badge.

Juror Commitment: Juror time commitment was underestimated. We adjusted expectations and rewards to ensure participation.

Solution

New branding and design system:

Enhances the overall user experience with a visually appealing and intuitive interface.

Comprehensive contract management:
- Ensures that freelancers and clients can work together seamlessly and securely.
- Streamlines collaboration and protects the interests of all parties involved.

Multiple payment options (fiat and cryptocurrencies):
- Allows users to choose their preferred method of transaction, catering to a wider audience.
- Facilitates global collaboration and financial inclusion.

Decentralized referral system:
- Creates a transparent and fair rewards program for users who help grow the platform's community.
- Encourages user engagement and promotes organic growth.

Credential management for educational and work certificates:

- Enables freelancers to showcase their qualifications and expertise.

- Adds an extra layer of trust and verification, helping clients make informed hiring decisions.

Impact

Socious 3.0 represented a significant milestone to create the most user-friendly, inclusive, and innovative freelance marketplace.
